The Open Championship 2022

Another year ushers in another Open Championship! The Open is back and better then ever and this year everyone is ready to get back into the swing of things.

This years Open will return to the home of golf, St Andrews., which will be the 30th time they have hosted the event, the last being in 2015. Which saw Zach Johnson take the win. Golf’s greatest champions have played at St Andrews, this includes Bobby Jones, Seve Ballesteros, Sir Nick Faldo, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

It has been 161 years since the first Open Championship. October 1860 saw eight professional golfers present at Prestwick; the original site is a testament to the tournaments long legacy. The early championships differ greatly to those of today, until 1981, Opens were played within a single day over 36 holes.

During World War I and World War II the tournament ground to a stop. During WWI The tournament was postponed for 5 years and saw a legendary return in 1920 at the Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club. The 1939 Open, which was held at St Andrews, was the last until WWII kicked off. Things picked back up again at the end of WWII leaving 5 years without an Open.

The Open sits today as the oldest of all four major championships in professional golf. Hosts of the championship are typically chosen three years in advance. The 2022 Open Championship will take place across 3 days in July, running from the 14th of July till the 17th.
