Below are our highlights of the sporting events you can look forward to this year.
FIFA World Cup in Qatar
World Cup 2022 will take place in Qatar from November 21st to December 18th where 32 Teams compete in eight groups. The full schedule is to be confirmed after finals draw in April 2022. Scotland and Wales are set for play-offs in March.
Wimbledon
The Wimbledon Championships are yearly tennis tournaments at the All-England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London. This will begin on Monday 27th of June and continues until the 10th of July. The 2022 championships will be the 135th time the competition has been held.
Kentucky Derby
The Kentucky Derby is a horse race held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, United States, always on the first Saturday in May. The 2022 Kentucky Derby is the 148th event of its kind. The Derby is held to end the Kentucky Derby festival with events varying year to year.
The Open, St Andrews
The 150th Open Championship will take place at St Andrews in 2022, Sunday the 10th of July and ends 7 days from then. The oldest of golf’s major championships it is a public course on common land in St Andrews, Scotland and is held in trust by the St Andrews Links Trust.
Rugby Sevens World Cup
Hosted In Cape town, Africa from the 9th of September until the 11th you can experience the 2022 tournament, which will comprise 24 men’s and 16 women’s teams played over three days at the Cape Town Stadium.
Tour De France
The Tour De France is an annual men’s multiple-stage bicycle race consisting of 21 stages, each a day long, over the course of 23 days. The race is primarily held in France however the races can be held in other neighbouring countries such as Denmark. The 2022 Tour De France will be held from Friday the 1st of July until Sunday the 24th of July.
Grand Prix, Monaco
Circuit de Monaco will host the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday the 29th of May. Circuit de Monaco is a street circuit laid out on the city streets of Monte Carlo and La Condamine. The circuit is annually used on three weekends between April–May for the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix, Formula E Monaco ePrix and Historic Grand Prix of Monaco.
Commonwealth Games
The commonwealth games are an international, multi-sport event featuring everything from boxing to wheelchair basketball. The 2022 Commonwealth Games will begin in Birmingham on Thursday the 28th of July and will end on Monday the 8th of August.
Women’s Euros
The UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 is to be held within the Uk from the 6th until the 31st of July. 31 matches are played at 10 venues across the country during the three and a half weeks of the tournament, with the England Lionesses opening the tournament on Wednesday 6 July.
The Masters
This year will see the 86th edition of the Masters Tournament, this is the first of the men’s four major golf championships within 2022. The tournament is to be played from April the 7th until the 10th at the Augusta National Golf club in Augusta, Georgia.
Ice Hockey World Championship
Taking place from the 13th of May until the 29th the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in two stadiums within Finland. The first is Nokia Arena in Tampere and the second is Hartwall Arena in Helsinki.
